Neurological Short Track
Comprehensive Interdisciplinary approach to high-level Brain Injury/ Stroke Rehabilitation and Recovery. A 5-7 day "short-stay" program designed to provide intensive rehabilitation to involve family in education about brain injury and the recovery process. Components of Program include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology Psychological Support Services, Neuropsychology, Respiratory, Therapeutic Recreation, Rehabilitation Nursing and Neurodevelopmental Techniques (NDT) trained clinicians. Daily Physician Rounds in addition to Psyiatry Rounds and consultations from specialists as needed. Onsite Pharmacist and Pharmacy services provided. Continuum of care includes transition to Outpatient Comprehensive day program and cognitive re-training program: PRIDE. Brain Injury/Stroke Referrals are available for patients and families. HEALTHSOUTH is committed towards returning brain injury/ stroke patients to work to home to living.
Therapeutic Objectives
- Cognitive retraining structured to patient's deficits
- Individualized communication retraining
- Swallowing evaluation and therapy
- Enhance motor return in the involved extremities
- Restore functional independence
- Assist the patient and family in emotional adjustment to the trauma of disability
Special Features
- Brain Injury adjustment education groups led by clinical social worker, Physician, Registered Nurse who specializes in rehabilitation, Speech-Language Pathologist and Nutritionist
- Neurodevelopmental Techniques (NDT) trained therapist and nurses
- Therapeutic Recreation Clinician to assist with community re-entry
- Seamless transition to our Comprehensive Outpatient Brain Injury Program: PRIDE
- Orientation and Memory Groups
Admissions Criteria
Patient should have a degree of physical and/or cognitive impairments that warrant intensive inpatient rehabilitation. Patient must be medically stable, this will be determined by the physician at the referring hospital
