Amputee Rehabilitation Program
Comprehensive Interdisciplinary approach to Amputee Rehabilitation and Recovery. This is a two-phase program; initially a patient may begin the process with an acute rehab stay to address the acute stage of wound healing, medical management, early transfer techniques, activities of daily living training and residual limb management. Phase two would be a transition to the DAY REHAB program. This outpatient based program that helps patients transition to independent living at home. HEALTHSOUTH is committed towards returning Amputee patients back to work, to home, to living.
Therapeutic Objectives
- Identify the patient's functional deficits
- Validate rehabilitation objectives based on the patient's goals and evaluate findings
- Restore functional independence
- Develop a comprehensive treatment plan and provide continuous modification of the plan as needed
An interdisciplinary team establishes a program of care, incorporating specific methods that encourage the patients to develop skills for problem solving approaches that are appropriate for his or her rehabilitation and continuing care.
Phase ONE Admission Criteria
Patients are evaluated upon referral from a physician or case manager. The following conditions indicates that the patient ready for transition to an acute rehabilitation program:
- The patient is medically stable, and has reasonable expectation for improvement and can tolerate an intensive inpatient rehabilitation program
- Has a pre-morbid condition that indicates a potential for rehabilitation
Phase TWO Admissions Procedure
Patients are referred for evaluation from their physician, they are then evaluated, and based on this evaluation in conjunction with their insurance plan provisions a patient will be accepted. Once clinically accepted and authorized by their insurance company, the patient is notified of this acceptance and therapy begins.
