The philosophy of HealthSouth Ludlow's senior management team is quite simple - people make a difference. As you read the following biographies, you'll see how integral each team member is in providing the high quality of services we embrace at HealthSouth. We hope you'll also take note of the many years of experience the team members bring to their roles.
CEO: Scott Keen
Scott Keen joined HealthSouth Ludlow in October of 2008 as Chief Executive Officer. A graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science with a Master Degree in Physical Therapy, Scott brings with him over 10 years of Healthcare experience. Scott’s Healthcare roots began as a Physical Therapist in Rehabilitation which brings a balanced and insightful approach to his management style. He has held a variety of administrative and clinical leadership roles in HealthSouth; most recently transitioning from Director of Marketing Operations for HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital in Reading, Pennsylvania. Scott’s diverse clinical and business background adds a multi-faceted dimension to the seasoned leadership team in Ludlow. Scott is an active member of the East of the River Chamber of Commerce and the Massachusetts Hospital Association.
Medical Director: Dr. Adnan Dahdul
Dr Dahdul is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, has a background in Emergency Medicine, and has specialized in Rehabilitation Medicine for 18 years. Dr. Dahdul has served as Medical Director at HealthSouth, Ludlow for over 14 years. He is an active member of the greater Springfield medical community and a member in good standing of the Massachusetts Medical Society. Dr. Dahdul holds teaching positions at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Springfield College. He has developed several outstanding patient-physician communication tools, including comprehensive discharge summaries used when patients transition from HealthSouth back to their primary care physicians.
Chief Nursing Director: Donna Bowles, RN, BSN
Donna Bowles brings over 10 years of experience in nursing administration to her position of Chief Nursing Officer. She works closely with her nursing team and values the role and contribution of Nursing in the Rehabilitation process. Donna has promoted staff professional growth through participation in the nursing and technical clinical ladders, rehabilitative nursing certification and participation in Hospital activities. She has also worked closely with Human Resources and nursing leadership within the Hospital to keep nursing job satisfaction and retention levels high. Patient satisfaction with nursing has peaked to an all-time level under Donna's guidance. Her calm presence and experience has brought the Nursing Team together to meet the challenges of nursing shortages. She also mentors area-nursing students in the field of rehabilitation nursing.
Controller: Vicky Healy
Vicky Healy brings a strong accounting background to her position as the hospital's Controller. She has managed accounting and billing for both inpatient and outpatient satellites where we have seen continued financial success. During her eight years of leadership at HealthSouth she has led the facility through multiple computer conversions with positive results. Her ability to provide smooth transitions of systems is a credit to her leadership role on the senior management team. In addition to her professional role, Vicky often takes the time to help in other areas and supports the hospital and her peers in any way she can.
Director of Clinical Services: Edward Moran
Edward Moran was appointed to the position of Director of Clinical Services in October of 2005. Ed earned his degree in Physical Therapy from AIC, as well as having a degree in finance from WNEC. Ed held the position of Director of inpatient Physical Therapy Services for the past 3 years and worked closely with the other Clinical Managers and has direct involvement with Staff Education and Career Development, Community Outreach and Public Education. Ed serves as Co-Chair for the facility's Stroke Team and assisted in the development of our Stroke Support Group. Ed works closely with all disciplines in Program Development and clinical outcomes. Ed's familiarity with the facility and staff as well as his belief that :The Rehabilitation Hospital of Western Massachusetts and the HealthSouth Outpatient Clinics provide "premier rehabilitation option in our region" Ed promotes an exposure to diagnoses, advances in treatment approaches and technology to stimulate a creative learning environment.
Human Resources Manager: Mary Mazza
Mary Mazza has worked at HealthSouth for the past nine years. Dedicated to employee recruitment and retention, Mary balances her advocacy for staff related issues with her leadership role on the senior management team. She works closely with nursing to provide staff on-site CPR along with coordination of CPR Instructors Training. Mary has played an instrumental role in coordinating the orientation process for all our employees. Mary also provides HR support for the four Outpatient Satellite Clinics.
Director of Marketing Operations: Gail Kowalewski, RN, CRRN
Gail Kowalewski brings over 30 years of acute clinical experience to her role at HealthSouth. Fifteen of those years have been dedicated to a focus on rehabilitative nursing. Gail brings together a team of highly trained registered nurses to provide education and evaluation of patients in need of rehabilitation. The Referral Department for HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Western Massachusetts has over 65 years of specialization in acute rehabilitation and is unparalleled by any rehabilitation hospital in the area. Gail also supervises the admissions office, physician marketer and has integrated inpatient and outpatient activities.
Director of Plant Operations and Safety Officer: A.J. Donais
A.J. Donais has been with HealthSouth for 12 years, managing physical plant operations, as well as providing administrative oversight for all guest services and support related departments. A.J. brings 11 years of healthcare/hospitality related management experience to his position, as well as a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration. In his role as Director of Plant Operations and Safety Officer, he co-chairs the hospital’s Safety Committee, which is responsible for ongoing improvement of patient safety, as well as ensuring hospital compliance with Joint Commission accreditation standards and local, state and federal regulations pertaining to the hospital’s Environment of Care.
Director of Quality: Stanley Konieczny MS CPHQ
Stan Konieczny has over 30 years of organizational development experience prior to joining us as Director of Quality. His extensive background in Quality, Risk Management and Patient Safety includes experience in acute care, acute rehabilitation, homecare, ambulatory care and behavioral healthcare. Stan is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality and a member of the National Association of Healthcare Quality and Massachusetts Hospital Association. In addition, he is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management. Stan works closely with hospital staff and leadership to exceed quality standards established by: Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, The Joint Commission, Department of Public Health, Board of Registration In Medicine and various other leading healthcare safety/improvement organizations.
